About Us
Back in the 1970’s, the only PCEA church that existed on the coast was PCEA St. Margaret’s Church, still under Nairobi Presbytery at the time. The church had a vibrant youth choir, which, through the then provincial commissioner, Mr. Eliud Mahihu—who attended St. Margaret’s Church and later became an elder—would receive invitations to entertain the first President of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, at State House.
During one of these invitations, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was so impressed with the choir’s performance that he offered them a reward for their dedication. When asked, they requested a piece of land on which to build a church, leading to the acquisition of the Makupa plot. This land was a token of appreciation for the choir’s dedication to serving the Lord. The plot was later dedicated by Rt. Rev. Dr. George Wanjau, the then-moderator of the Nairobi Presbytery, as the coast region was still part of that presbytery.
In 1977, a committee was appointed by the management of St. Margaret's Church to oversee the Makupa plot project. The committee was tasked with guiding the vision and overseeing the establishment of this new congregation.
